Recent studies show that 32% of Americans admit to lying about their resume summary. As a small business owner, knowing how to handle this scenario is crucial if you want to hire the best talent. Fortunately, there are some ways to determine whether someone is lying on their job application easily.

For instance, 44% of job candidates who admitted to lying say they did so because they lacked the necessary qualifications for the job. 

It's not uncommon to see candidates mentioning college degrees or certificates in their C.V. Many times, H.R. professionals conducting interviews assume they've completed these programs and move on with the discussion, but that isn't always the case.

So, it's a good practice to actually ask the candidate whether they've graduated from these studies. It's pretty much a 'yes' or 'no' question, so you'll be able to quickly find out whether they have the necessary skills for the job. 

Now, of course, it's not about being skeptical of everything a job candidate has written on their resume but asking the right questions to determine their level of skills and experience. For this purpose, giving them small projects to complete or asking them to explain in detail how they've worked on similar projects in the past can go a long way.
